I now would be creating and designing flatplans for my magazine publication, after conducting my research on magazine layouts and conventions I know would be carefully planning how to layout my magazine and would be considering how it would appeal to my targeted audience. Like most magazines I would be keeping consistent conventions on all my three pages such as page numbers, issue numbers and dates.
For the three flatplans front covers I would be following basic magazine conventions such as having the masthead at the top. I’ve also decided on having one main image and a main cover line based on this as this would catch the attention of my targeted audience would drag them in the story. I have considered the positioning other basic conventions such as the barcode, issue number, date and price as they are vital to creating a successful cover. Other aspects which I have considered is by covering my additional space by including conventions such as buttons, insert images, anchorage, freebies, slogans/logo’s as this would help to develop my cover and make it more attractive.
For my three contents pages I have followed conventions which would make a hip/pop magazines, these basic conventions include keeping the main ‘contents’ title at the top of the page for all the flatplans. I have used the title ‘Contents’ as this would straight away address to my audience would the page would consist of. One of the features I have included in all my three flatplans is a main image which relates to an article within the magazine, there would also be other insert images with anchorages which would be included which would attract my target audience giving them a taster on what is included in my magazine. Other conventional features would be included such as list of features, page numbers, insert images and also including my website which would attract my audience to discover more about the magazine.
For the three double page spread flat plans I would follow like all my other pages follow a conventional Hip/Pop magazine, one of the main conventions would be by keeping a main title of the double page spread at the top of the page for all the flatplans. Most double page spreads follow a main convention such as Central line/spine which is the middle of both the pages, I also would be including a main image which would relate to the article I would be writing about, page numbers, date, logo, issue number, insert images and also appealing quotes from artists which would appeal to my targeted audience. One main convention for Hip/Pop magazine is having a whole page based on Questions and Answers as my targeted audience prefers features like this and also this helps makes the double page article look busy.
