Points To Consider While Designing My Publication

. In my questionnaire an equivalent of both male and female said that they would buy a magazine publication as my publication should now be aimed towards both genders and should be made as appealing as possible.

. When produced my questionnaire it was handed out to a majority of people aged between 15-20. After looking back at my results I concluded that my publication should be aimed at people aged between 15-25.

. In my questionnaire I asked my volunteers 'when would they mostly buy a magazine' and a majority of people said 'after every fortnight', after taking this into account I would be releasing a new edition of my publication after every two weeks so a large number of my targeted audience can purchase my magazine.

. In my questionnaire I asked my volunteers what they mostly prefer seeing in a magazine, the response to this was more people enjoyed reading interviews. This made me decide that in my magazine my double page spread would include an interview of an artist which should attract my targeted audience.

. When asked my volunteers if they enjoyed seeing more text or images in a magazine, the response I got was more people enjoyed reading texts then looking at images, as this made me decide that in my publication I would include more of texts along with images and inserts. As a few images should attract my target audience as images would relate to my article more.

. When asked people what is the maximum amount they would pay for a decent music magazine, a majority of my volunteers responded by agreeing to paying between £2.99 & £3.99. As i reckoned this would be a reasonable price as my targeted audience felt comfortable with this as i decided that my magazine should be priced in this range.

Mini Case Study; Web 2.0

Web 2.0 is a program which is related with many different web applications that work in partnership with the World Wide Web. Web 2.0 involves new and improved versions of online connection, between people, online services and software applications. This is normally used to connect people to each other by another by social networks as this gives people free access to upload multimedia to the internet through social media. Social media is any form of online publication such as videos, music, text or any sort of multimedia content, that allows you to broadcast to the world where other people can view the context and feedback by leaving messages and comments. You can also ‘Tag’ the content as this also contributes towards software applications related to Web 2.0; other functions such as blogging are used as these applications give feedback. Web 2.0 changes the way we how companies would link together and would also revolutionise the way can access our documents and data from our computer workstations down to our mobile phones/smart phones.

This is a mind map based on ‘Web 2.0’ around the heading are important phrases which are all associated in some way with this program as they all are proven to be relevant.

Here is one example of a social media website ‘YouTube’ as this is one of the world’s largest social media websites with over millions of users broadcasting their multimedia. As this social media website also allows users to give and receive feedback to other videos. It also possible to forward this content on to other social media websites to allow other users to give feedback.

Case Study; NME

This case study is based on The New Musical Express also known as ‘NME’ which is a very popular music magazine published in the United Kingdom and has been publishing weekly since March 1952. The magazine is published through IPC Media (Time Inc). IPC Media is a leading publisher that produces 85 media brand as almost two thirds of UK 56% of women and 44% of UK men with a large portfolio selling over 350 million copies each year. The Magazine was the first British magazine publication to include a singles chart which appeared in 1952 and in 1972 started to become closely linked with punk rock. During the 1960’s The Beatles and The Rolling Stones were commonly featured on the front cover as these artists appeared at the NME Poll Winners Concert, this award was known for artists being voted as most popular by the paper’s readers. These awards shows were recorded and edited and broadcasted on television as this started the trend of NME Concerts.

The magazine is sold today revolutionising the way we see music, its focus is to attract people who have interest in music and to grab the attention of people to try listen and have interest in music. The target audience is between 15 to 25 year olds as the material is only appropriate for this target audience, older age groups wouldn’t have any interest and young age groups would fail to understand the genre of music NME. The NME normally focuses on rock music and pop related groups as more people in the certain age group would get attracted to this.

The magazine is often advertised for publicity so the public can be aware of the company and its magazine. Also NME is widely promoted on television channels and most adverts such as Vo5 hair gell adverts as NME advertise their concerts on certain brand labels. NME is also known for its large festivals and concerts across the UK, which every year thousands of people attend to see famous artist from across the world performing on stage. ‘NME’ magazines are sold in newsagents across the UK and also in supermarkets and other stores which sell other magazines of its genre. ‘NME’ also publishes editions of its magazines online on their main website, as readers could have easy access to information and also have more access to more exclusive news and music information, as the NME website also contains, videos of concerts and music videos, photos of artists and press launches, reviews on singles and albums, personal blogs where people would post their views and get feedback and much more. In addition an

NME mobile application could also be found on mobile phones such as the ‘iPhone’ and also on tablet devices such as the ‘iPad’, which would be downloaded by a user in order to give them direct and instant online information straight to their smart phone/tablet,  as this makes it easier as you wouldn’t have to carry a paper format of the magazine as reading from an electronic device would be easy and portable.

NME also offered there greatest fans their very own TV channel as this was aimed directly to their targeted audience who enjoyed listening the rock and roll genre of music. This TV channel was first aired to viewers on the 22nd November 2007 till the 5th January 2012, during this time period NME TV aired many of their music concerts, interviews which attracted their audiences massively. Due to how NME TV was owned by CSC Media as they aired the channel, CSC Media airs many channels as this became one of the reasons why NME TV came off air as the company already airs many chart show channels ranging from many different genres.

An NME radio station is available for their targeted audience as this began broadcasting on the 24th June 2008 as this is owned by IPC Media, Town and Country Broadcasting. The radio station was set to attract their targeted rock audience into songs and live interviews; the radio station was also broadcasted as DAB radio as it could be viewed on TV and also offered their audience an online format of the radio station to allow the ability of ease within their targeted audience.

This cover of NME is an issue which was released on the 12th August 1996, which on the front page advertises the battle between Britpop groups ‘Oasis’ and ‘Blur’. As in those decades were two main Britpop groups.

This is one of the most recent additions of an NME magazine which has been published, as this is one of the basic and interesting layouts in which NME use whilst distributing their magazines.

This is NME iPhone/iPod application which is available to download from the Appstore for 69p, as NME’s targeted audience would be able to view music videos along with many interviews as they can read new music stories as this all would be available on the device.

This is the NME TV logo which includes a slogan ‘Great Music First’ as this would directly appeal to their targeted audience, this logo and slogan was used to advertise the TV channel to its UK audience.

In this NME Radio logo they have advertised a recent concert tour by HP as this is aimed directly to its targeted audience so they can be aware of this tour also publishing how it is hosted by NME Radio.
